The frontier R&D unit of Edge

Frontier R&D.
Delivered.

Your frontier roadmap, built by people who build. We keep you ahead of what's happening in AI, turn it into concepts for your business, and when you say go, we build the finished product. Reports, specs and calls. Not decks.

Start with a report. Build when it's earned.

Why Labs exists

Most advisory work stops at the deck.

A slide that fails in the real world still gets paid for. Labs only recommends what it's prepared to build, then builds it. We run our own robotics lab and design Red Dot-winning hardware, so we know the difference between a demo and a product.

The engagement

Start with one report. Three things you can count on.

A single report to begin, a fixed retainer if it earns its place, and outputs designed to be acted on, not filed. Reports, briefs, product concepts and calls. Building only when there's something worth building.

01 Quarterly, with a monthly brief

An industry-specific frontier report

Every quarter: what moved in AI, what we tested in the lab, what it means for your organisation, and what to do about it. Every month in between, a two-page brief and a call. Written by the people building with it, presented to your leadership.
  1. §1What moved in AI
  2. §2What we tested in the lab
  3. §3What it means for you
  4. §4What to do about it

02 Two or three a year

Product concepts that build your roadmap forward

A new product, a new capability inside one you already have, a new way to reach your customers. Some are a fortnight's work, some are a major build. Each comes scoped, with the number it would move and a spec you can act on.

0recommendations we wouldn't build ourselves

03 When you say go

Built, when you want it

Rapid iteration from concept to finished product. Mostly software and AI; physical devices when the idea calls for it. Then Edge Expert Services runs it for you.
How an engagement works

The lab

Where the work happens

Frontier AI is easy to talk about and hard to make work. The lab is where we find out which claims are real before they reach your report. Our device design has won multiple Red Dot awards.
  • Agentic systems
  • On-device inference
  • Frontier model evaluation
  • Red Dot device design
Inside the lab

Proof

Judged on what we ship.

Short write-ups of Labs work, live and in use. Each one starts with the number that changed, and follows the report's structure: context, what we built, how, what changed, what's next.

All seven, including Photo AI, Sacred Network and Ecohustler

On tools

The creativity is in the question. The machine executes.

Every product above began as a brief sharp enough that a model could act on it and a person could tell whether it had. Knowing what to ask, what good looks like, and which answers are wrong: that part isn't automated.

That part is us.

The quarterly report

This quarter, decoded for your industry.

Every retainer includes a quarterly frontier report written for one industry: what moved, what we tested, competitive signals, implications, and zero to two recommended moves. Every issue and every brief is presented on a call. Decision-ready, not a reading list.

Three things that moved this quarter, and one that didn't.

  1. §1

    crosses from demo to deployable

Implication: in your pick-rate model within two quarters.

  2. §2

On-device VLM inference under 200ms on

Tested in the lab this quarter. Precision holds; recall doesn't yet. Lab result

  3. §3

    Competitor signal:

Not the threat it looks like. Here's why, and what to watch instead.

  4. §5

    Recommended move: none this quarter

The capability you asked about isn't ready. We'll tell you the month it is.

How it works

One report first. The cadence follows.

Everything short of a build is virtual: reports, briefs, specs and calls. Building happens only when there's something worth building. Some quarters the right answer is "not yet", and we'll say so.

  1. 01Weeks 1–4

    Discovery

A short series of calls to get inside your industry and your organisation: where the value sits, where the friction is, and where frontier capability can change the game.

  2. 02Quarterly, with a monthly brief

    The report

An industry-specific frontier report every quarter: developments, lab results, competitive signals and what they mean for you. A two-page brief and a call each month in between.

  3. 03Two or three a year

    Concepts

Product concepts aligned to where you're going. Each scoped and justified, designed to move your numbers, not your slide count, and each arrives with a spec we're prepared to build.

  4. 04When you say go

    Build

Rapid iteration to a finished product. Software and AI built by the Labs team; physical devices designed and engineered in our lab to Red Dot standard. Priced per piece of work, agreed up front.

  5. 05Live

    Run

The finished product goes to Edge Expert Services to host, operate and evolve on the Edge platform. Labs stays on the retainer, watching for the next move.
